Does the Bible Describe Technology Gone Wild?
Revelation 16:8-9 "And the fourth angel poured
out his vial upon the sun, and power was given to it to scorch men with fire. Then men were scorched with great heat..."
If power
is given to the sun, will this be as a result of a failed attempt to band back the rays of the sun? Throughout the book of Revelation
there are numerous scenarios in which technology could be the reason for what is described.
Revelation 8:12 "Then the fourth
angel sounded the trumpet; and a third of the sun was smitten, and a third of the moon, and a third of the stars; so that a third
of them were darkened; and a third part of the day did not shine, and likewise a third part of the night."
Webster explains the
word "smitten" as "a result of a heavy blow on or as if by the hand, or tool, or a weapon." The hand of a man has the tool of technology
at his disposal to be used as a weapon. Darkness is described as "reflecting (bending back) only a small fraction of the incident
light." The word "incident" means "something related to something else." If the sun's rays were altered because of the battle against
climate change, it would be a nightmare beyond comprehension, if such an attempt backfired. One meaning for shine, as mentioned in
Revelation 8:12, is to aim or cast the beam or glow of." To aim or cast means to "direct toward a specific target," which is exactly
what technology using pollution particles would do.
In Revelation 16:8-9, it says men will be scorched by the sun. In Revelation
8:12, it says the sun will be darkened. Both scenarios could be as a result of either a cosmic disturbance or technology gone wild.
It could also be a combination of both.
While technology has many benefits, the potential for its use as a weapon presents a
future equivalent to a raging wild beast destroying everything in its path.
